Abortion or Adoption

Is Abortion or Adoption Right for Me?

Making a decision about your pregnancy can be overwhelming, especially when considering abortion or adoption. If you’ve already determined that parenting isn’t the right choice for you at this time, you might be feeling uncertain and searching for direction.

We’re here to provide a supportive environment where you can explore your options, evaluate the challenges, and gain the understanding you need to make the best choice for your circumstances.

Let’s navigate this together, step by step, as you consider whether abortion or adoption is the right path for you.

What To Know About Abortion

Abortion is an option that terminates an existing pregnancy.

There are two types of abortion procedures: medical and surgical. A medical abortion uses drugs to end a pregnancy. A surgical abortion uses a combination of drugs, instruments, or suction to remove a pregnancy.  It’s important to know the risks of each procedure.

The risks of a medical abortion (also known as the “abortion pill”) include:

  • The body not releasing all pregnancy tissue in the uterus, also called an incomplete abortion. This may require surgical abortion.
  • An ongoing pregnancy if the procedure doesn’t work.
  • Heavy and prolonged bleeding.
  • Infection.
  • Fever.
  • Digestive symptoms such as upset stomach.

The risks associated with surgical abortion include:

  • Uterine perforation (this occurs when one of the medical instruments pokes a hole in your uterus)
  • Scar tissue on the uterine wall (which can lead to painful periods or future infertility)
  • Damage to the cervix
  • Infection

What To Know About Adoption

Adoption is a significant decision that can be emotionally challenging, but it also provides an opportunity to focus on your future goals without the medical risks associated with abortion.

When considering adoption, it’s important to know that there are many options available to you. You can decide whether you’d like to have ongoing communication with the adoptive family and child, or if you prefer to remain anonymous.

If you choose adoption, you’ll work closely with an adoption agency to create a personalized adoption plan. This plan will outline your goals, preferences, and the details of how you’d like the process to unfold.

While adoption is not an easy choice, it allows you to explore your future while offering another family the opportunity to grow through adoption.
